Some time ago it was reported that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) would make next-generation Hardware 4 (HW 4.0) chip for Tesla EV but the report by “The Korea Economic Daily” tells just the opposite. According to “The Korea Economic Daily”, Samsung beats the biggest player Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) to obtain Tesla’s next-generation autopilot chip production contract. Now, Samsung will manufacture the Tesla next-generation Hardware 4 (HW 4.0) chip for the Tesla EV car that will enhance autonomous driving technology.A source quoted that “Tesla and Samsung’s foundry division has been working on the design and samples of the chip from the start of this year. Recently, Tesla decided to outsource the HW 4.0 self-driving chip to Samsung. It’s virtually a done deal,”.

The Hardware 4 (HW4.0) will replace the Hardware 3 (HW 3.0), which is currently used in Tesla cars and support its semi-autonomous driving system. The Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously said that the safety performance of this new car (also known as “FSD Computer 2″) maybe 10 times higher than that of manual driving, even when compared with the current generation of FSD Computer 1. It is also 3 times higher than the latter. The Korea Economic Daily” reported that ” Samsung plans to mass-produce the Tesla HW 4.0 chip at its main Hwasung plant in Korea using the 7-nanometer processing technology in the fourth quarter of this year. The 7 nm process is less advanced than its 5 nm process, but Samsung has decided to use the 7 nm technology to ensure higher production yields and stable functions of the chip when installed on full self-driving (FSD) cars”

Tesla and Samsung both agreed on the 7-nanometer process to ensure the safety of Tesla’s next-generation electric vehicles. According to information previously announced by Elon Musk, Tesla will not start the production of Cybertruck until the end of 2022, and full production will have to wait until 2023. Tesla plans to unveil its Cybertruck, in late 2022 and has already received 1.2 million units in pre-orders. Most likely Tesla Cybertruck will be equipped with Hardware 4 (HW 4.0) which will be manufactured by Samsung and Samsung chips not come out until 2022 before.
